- Gender
- Profession
- Year of birth
- Types of interests
Information you give to us to complete redemptions in Gener8 Marketplace
When you redeem your points in the marketplace, we may need some additional information to make sure we know where to send your reward or to verify your identity.
- Phone number - so we can contact you about your rewards, if needed, and verify your identity
- Delivery address - if you redeem your points against a physical product.
Wherever we can, we pre-purchase products, codes and vouchers from these companies and then transfer them to you, to reduce the number of times your data is shared with others.
Information we process for verification purposes
To help prevent fraudulent activity, we need to check that you are who you say you are. To do this, we ask you for the following:
- Phone number - we use third party services (such as Twilio) to send you a verification code to make sure the phone number is yours.
- Phone number or email - we may send your email address or phone number to third party verification services, to determine if your information you provide is valid and reputable.
Information we collect or generate if we communicate with you
If you contact us either through support or social channels, including our chat bot which is operated by Intercom, we collect the following information so we can respond and take action:
- Email address, contents of your email alongside any attachments
- Public data associated with your social media profile (like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) if you reach out to us using one of these platforms
- Contents of any feedback you send to us (e.g if you fill out a feedback form, or report an issue from within Gener8 Browser).
- There is standard data generated by way of the communications we send to you such as delivery rates and open rates.
If we contact you, it will only be to respond to a customer service query, or if you have consented to receive marketing communications from us, which you can unsubscribe from at any time by following the unsubscribe link in every marketing email we send to you. We use third party partners to assist us with our marketing communications.
We may use social networks to find users similar to you. We use your email address and the marketing tools provided by Facebook and Instagram to find people who have similar interests to you. We do this as part of our legitimate interest to promote our business.

Information that is processed when using Gener8 Browser
By default, we process the following data locally on your system:
- Browsing history information; for example the Gener8 Browser may store the URLs of pages that you visit, a cache of text, images and other resources from those pages. If the pre-rendering feature is turned on, a list of IP addresses linked to those pages may also be stored for some period of time
- Name, surname, email or passwords to help you fill out forms or sign in to sites you visit
- Permissions that you have granted to websites
- Cookies or data from websites that you visit
- Data saved by add-ons
- A record of what you downloaded from websites, so you can easily find your downloaded files
Information that is processed when using the Gener8 App (iOS & Android)
Once you've created your account we will give you the option to connect your data wallet in the App with third party platforms using different data connections.
Data Connections
Gener8 enables you to connect third party accounts and services to your Gener8 data wallet. If you decide to give your consent to share your data with Gener8 we will assign a unique identifier to you, which reduces the chances that any data that is collected could be linked back to you directly by third parties. We then work hard to remove further information that could be used by third parties to identify you indirectly, for example, email addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers, and more. We never intentionally sell your personal data for the purposes of it being used to contact, re-target, or spam you. You can remove your consent and disconnect any of your data connections at any time.
Safari Extension (iOS)
If you enable the Safari Extension for iOS we assign a unique identifier to you to collect data on your browsing history (URLs, time of site visit, time spent, etc), which reduces the chances that any of the data collected can be linked back to you. We never intentionally sell your personal data for the purposes of it being used to contact, re-target, or spam you.
Android Activity
We also enable Android users to share their device activity data with us, and provide points for this data, which can be redeemed in our rewards platform. To use this feature you'll authorise Gener8 to be able to collect data on the content viewed on the device for example browsing history (URLs, time of site visit, time spent, etc), app usage, online searches, shopping activities and ads seen. Gener8 cannot access this data until you give your consent.
Clean My Inbox
To use this feature you'll authorise Gener8 to connect with your email provider (e.g Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo). Gener8 will process data required to make the feature work, such as who emailed you, how many times, when they emailed you, and then add filters to your inbox.
Receipt Radar
To use this feature you'll be authorising Gener8 to connect to your email provider (e.g Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo).
If you choose to connect and give your consent Gener8 will connect to and scan your inbox for receipts from some merchants. We will then award you points for these receipts. Gener8's automated systems will only look for emails related to online purchases, bookings or subscriptions, such as receipts and confirmations.
My Google Data
We enable users to share their data collected on them by Google with us. To do so, you'll first need to authorise Gener8 to connect with your Google account and transfer your Google Data to us. Gener8 cannot access this data until you give your consent.
We do this in 2 ways.
Firstly users are able to transfer their google data with us as a manual transfer. We also use the Google Data Portability API to share your Google data with us, in an easy way.
To use either of these features you'll authorise Gener8 to connect with Google and transfer your data to us. Gener8 cannot access this data until you give your consent.
If you connect using a manual transfer, any data that is retrieved will be encrypted and downloaded to your device.
Our use of information received from the Data Portability API adheres to the Data Portability API user data and developer policy, including the Limited Use Requirements. We use information collected through your use of My Google Data to:
- provide you points for your data, on behalf of our partners (for more information, see below: information we share with partners);
- to improve user-facing features on the App or Website.
We do not share your information that we receive through Google APIs with third parties other than those as necessary to
- support the functions we need to provide you points for your data, on behalf of our partners (for more information, see below: information we share with partners);
- for legal or security reasons;
- or as part of an acquisition or liquidation.
App time
We enable Android users to share their app usage data with us, and provide points for this data, which can be redeemed in our rewards platform. To use this feature you'll authorise Gener8 to collect data on what other apps you're using and how often on your Device. Gener8 cannot access this data until you give your consent.
Location
We enable users to share their location data (Latitude, Longitude, Accuracy (GPS)) and provide points in exchange, which can be used in our rewards platform. Gener8 cannot access this data until you give your consent and authorise the Gener8 app to collect location data on your Device.
As with all the data that we commercialise on our users' behalf, we assign a unique identifier to this data and remove various identifiers that third parties could potentially use to identify you. Even with these steps, we adopt a cautious approach and continue to treat this de-identified location data as personal data, and as such - in the case of location data - we list the parties that we share it with. At present, this includes:
- Huq: You can find a full description of Huq and what it does with the information collected via our app in their privacy policy.
Demographics
One of the data sets you can share with us in the Gener8 data wallet is information on your demographics. These include your age, gender, employment status, income and education level. You can choose to share this information - or not - it is an optional data set.
If you choose to complete your demographics we assign an anonymous identifier to you, which means that any of the following data collected cannot be associated with you personally. We would never intentionally sell your personal data so that it can be used to contact, re-target, or spam you.
Surveys
At times we run surveys on behalf of our partners. The surveys are always optional, and will be completed in exchange for points that can be redeemed in our rewards platform. If you choose to complete a survey we assign an anonymous identifier to you, which means that any of the following data collected cannot be associated with you personally. We would never intentionally sell your personal data so that it can be used to contact, re-target, or spam you.
Information that is processed when using Rewards Mode
If you opt-in to Rewards Mode and use the Gener8 Ads browser extension or Gener8 Browser we assign an anonymous identifier to you, which means that any of the following data collected cannot be associated with you personally. We would never intentionally sell your personal data so that it can be used to contact, re-target, or spam you.
- Preferences - the preferences and optional data (not your email address) you provide to us when you set up Rewards Mode
- Browsing history - URLs, time of site visit, time spent, etc
- Purchases you make - contents of the page and details about your purchase
Information we share with partners
We commercialise data provided by users, including those who have:
- opted-in to Rewards Mode;
- exported data from third party platforms into the Gener8 App;
- shared e-receipts, app usage, browsing data and location data with Gener8;
- chosen to share demographics data or survey data with Gener8.
This requires sharing data with other companies, which allows us to generate revenue, which we share with our users via rewards on our rewards platform.
As outlined above, your data goes through several filtering stages before it is shared with agreed third parties, to reduce the possibility that it could be used to re-identify you.
We reduce this risk further through careful consideration of the companies we engage with, and through specific prohibitions within our commercial contracts over how the data can be used.
These other companies include a range of businesses such as advertising and marketing agencies, financial institutions, and research companies.
If you choose to share and allow us to commercialise your data on your behalf, examples of the de-identified data that we share with commercial partners includes:
- items purchased, along with information such as the merchant the items were bought from, the price, and date of purchase;
- websites visited during a given period, along with information such as the date, time spent on the page, and the source of the web traffic.
Our Partners typically use this data to analyse market trends and gain insights into consumer behaviours, and not to intentionally target you directly as an individual.
This kind of sharing and use of your data is carried out routinely and often unclearly by many of the companies you engage with in your daily life. In contrast, we are open and transparent with you, and we share the revenue with you through rewards.
How do you keep my data secure?
Gener8 works hard to protect your data that we hold from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including by:
- Using encryption to keep your data private while in transit.
- Deploying two-factor authentication for account verification.
- Maintaining robust security procedures to protect the confidentiality of your personal data. We regularly review these measures and update them where necessary to protect against unauthorised access to our systems.
Where is my data stored?
Gener8's servers are based in the UK and that's where we store your data.
Whenever we transfer your personal information outside of the UK and the EU, we ensure it receives additional protection as required by law. To keep this privacy policy as short and easy to understand as possible, we haven't set out the specific circumstances when each of these protection measures are used. You can contact us at [email protected] to find out more.
If you opt to use the Gener8 Browser in "Privacy Mode", we prevent your browser from sending out sensitive data to thousands of third-party tracking and advertising companies. We remove (almost) all of the advertising you would normally see online for a cleaner, faster browsing experience. Our filter lists contain blocking rules for tens of thousands of websites and are updated daily.
How long do you keep my data for?
We will only keep your data for as long as we need to. If you have not used your account for more than 5 years, then we will send you an email to warn you your account will be closed in 90 days unless you log in. If you don't log in within those 90 days, we will automatically close your account and permanently delete any personal data that we hold on you.
You can close your account and delete your personal data at any time - the easiest way for you to do this is through your profile, simply follow the steps from this support article.
What are my rights under data protection laws?
You have a suite of rights and protections under data protection laws, including the right to:
- access your personal data;
- correct incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you;
- ask us to erase the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to restrict our handling of your personal data;
- ask us to transfer your personal data to a third party;
- object to how we are using your personal data; and
- withdraw your consent to us handling your personal data.
You can close your account and delete your personal data at any time - the easiest way for you to do this is through your profile, simply follow the steps from this support article.
However - if you would like to undertake any other rights or actions with your data you can contact us by email at [email protected].
You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). The ICO is the supervisory authority for data protection issues in England and Wales. If you are based elsewhere, you can find your relevant supervisory authority here.
We've worked hard to create a privacy policy that's easy to read, and clear. But if you believe we have missed an important perspective, or used language we could improve, please let us know. We'd love to hear from you.
