Meet Will, our Head of Product. He’s a Gener8 champion, focussed on understanding the user experience and working closely with our engineering team to improve and implement new features ✊.

🤔 What does an average day for a Head of Product look like?

It varies day to day, but it typically involves supporting and prioritising work for engineering with regular check-ins. I look at our metrics each day; how many users we have, how they’re engaging with the product, are we seeing any trends or changes? Then I’ll usually have some work planning what to build next – listening to customer feedback, working with design and engineering, and prioritising this against our business objectives. It’s a varied role!

⚡️ What sparked your interest in working in the tech industry?

During the summer after university, I was really interested in Apps which were becoming “the thing” at the time so I did a couple of internships with tech startups around East London. I was drawn to how creative and fast-moving the industry is, and how a small idea can get into the hands of millions of people around the world.

✊ What drew you to Gener8?

Working in the online privacy space for some time I could see that it was becoming a very sales-orientated industry and wasn’t reacting quick enough to changing customer needs and attitudes. What I love about Gener8 is that it’s providing a fully transparent value proposition that empowers people with their data. It gives users the choice, which is super powerful. 

👌 What aspect of your job do you love the most?

I like the challenge of tackling problems that have yet to be solved. It can be daunting at times but it’s a lot more exciting than walking a well-trodden path!

👶 What was your dream job when you were growing up?

I wanted to be a train driver! Watching all of those Thomas the Tank Engine episodes must have left an impression on me 🚂.

💰 If you were given an unlimited budget to start up your own side project, what would it be? 

I find AI and robotics really interesting, so something in this space. Not exactly sure what the project would be but I’m sure that an unlimited budget would help!

⛷ When you’re not working, what do you like doing in your spare time?

I love skiing but Covid has made that a little difficult recently. I also enjoy indoor climbing and since lockdown, I’ve started to do a lot more cooking, which I never thought I’d get into.
